About
At the age of 10, I moved to London England, where I was born, to Johannesburg, South Africa. I went with my parents who were returning home after 20 years of living abroad. In the early 90s I relocated to New York City where I became a performance artist. Since 2007 I have resided in Vancouver, where I work between performance, video, object-making, and drawing. Much of my recent work has focused on the histories of the feminine struggle for spiritual authority and its relationship to contemporary New Age religion. I am currently at work on a book that is part history of the New Age and part memoir.
I have shown my work at the Western Front, Artspeak and Unit17 in Vancouver; Mercer Union in Toronto; and Participant Inc. and the Pratt Manhattan Gallery and the Knitting Factory among many others in New York City; as well as further afield including Europe, South Korea and Brazil. I have received grants from Franklin Furnace Archive NYC, Canada Council for the Arts and the BC Arts Council. In 2000, I was visiting artist and guest lecturer of performance art at the University of Texas at Austin.
