Looking for God, 2013

A video fragment recorded during ‘gazing’ sessions conducted during a spiritual retreat, and with the retreat participants, is embedded using teleprompter technology into a live camera feed. The curious viewer who approaches the device encounters a miniature video image of the artist looking directly out at them. Much like the original retreat ‘gazing’ sessions which were conducted through a double set of connected teleprompter-like devices that enabled participants to make eye contact while simultaneously looking into the lens, the viewer also makes eye contact with the lens, further duplicating this recursive gaze via a projection, into the space of the gallery.
